Upcoming lecture: The Challenges and Opportunities for Effective Leadership
Wilson College's academic director, Don Abelson, will be giving the final lecture of Hamilton Third Age Learning's Fall 2024 Lecture Series. The talk will be hosted at The Westdale theatre on Wednesday, October 23rd at 10am.

Abelson’s talk will focus on the challenges and opportunities for effective leadership.
“There is no doubt that some people are born to be leaders, but it is critical not to lose sight of countless others who may not see themselves in leadership roles because they have never been given a chance. At a time when public trust in our elected and appointed officials is continuing to erode, it is necessary to think seriously about the qualities leaders must possess. At the very least, leaders must abandon the notion that leadership is about popularity.
“Nothing could be further from the truth. Leadership is about the desire to make a difference, to improve the life of the country, and to instill in its policies a deep and abiding respect for all people. The health of our democracy and democratic institutions relies heavily on those who possess and exhibit these attributes.”
This talk will be on Wednesday, October 23rd at 10am, and will be offered in person and virtually. This is the final lecture of a five-part series, which included other discussions on pertinent topics, including Ontario’s Greenbelt, the housing crisis, and food and farming in Canada.
